Mardaani is a powerful and hard-hitting crime thriller directed by Pradeep Sarkar, starring Rani Mukerji in one of her most impactful roles.
The story follows Shivani Shivaji Roy, a fearless and determined police officer in the Mumbai Crime Branch. When a teenage girl she is close to gets kidnapped, Shivani uncovers a larger human trafficking racket operating across borders. What begins as a rescue mission soon turns into a dangerous battle against a well-organized criminal network.
One of the film’s biggest strengths is its realistic and serious approach. It sheds light on the harsh reality of human trafficking without unnecessary glamour, making the narrative more impactful. The tension builds steadily as Shivani tracks down the criminals, leading to a gripping and emotional journey.
Rani Mukerji delivers a powerful and commanding performance, portraying strength, intelligence, and emotional depth. Her character stands out as a strong female lead who is both determined and compassionate. The antagonist is also portrayed effectively, adding to the film’s intensity.
The direction keeps the film tight and focused, with a fast-paced narrative that maintains suspense throughout. The background score supports the tension without overpowering the scenes.
However, the film’s straightforward storytelling may feel predictable at times, and some viewers might find the dark theme heavy and disturbing.
