The Family Star – Review
The Family Star tries to blend romance, family emotions, and commercial drama into one package—but ends up feeling uneven and outdated. Directed by Parasuram and starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur, the film revolves around Govardhan, a middle-class man carrying the weight of his entire family while navigating love and self-respect.
At its core, the story has a relatable premise—struggles of responsibility, ego clashes, and modern relationships. The first half builds some engaging moments with light humor and emotional setup. Vijay brings intensity to his role, portraying a hardworking but stubborn man, while Mrunal adds charm and grace, making their pairing visually appealing.
However, the film starts losing grip in the second half. The screenplay becomes stretched, predictable, and at times illogical. Critics widely pointed out that despite a promising setup, the narrative lacks emotional depth and fails to keep the audience invested.
One of the biggest drawbacks is the film’s tone. It shifts awkwardly between romance, drama, and over-the-top commercial elements. Some scenes feel exaggerated, while others fail to create the emotional impact they aim for. In fact, many reviewers criticized the film for weak writing and an outdated portrayal of relationships.
Online audience reactions have also been mixed. While a few viewers found it entertaining as a “time-pass” film, others felt it was generic and lacked strong storytelling.
Despite its flaws, the film isn’t completely unwatchable. It has decent music, a few light-hearted moments, and performances that try to hold everything together.
In the end, The Family Star feels like a missed opportunity—a film with a relatable idea but weak execution.
